A cycle of generosity

Coming from a tough neighborhood in Chicago, going to college was a chance to change her life. Thanks to a scholarship, Miriam Rivera, ’86, MA ’89, JD/MBA ’95, made it to Stanford, went on to a distinguished career in law and business, and later endowed a scholarship to help others.

“I went back to ask the name of my donor so I could say ‘Thank you,’” says Rivera, who also endowed a scholarship to help others. At Stanford, need-blind admission continues to be backed by one of the most generous financial aid programs in the country.
