Improving K-12 Education

"Stanford graduate students are emerging scholars and professionals whose curiosity, open minds, and fresh perspectives will launch new ways of thinking and problem solving. If we adopt a spirit of experimentation, collaboration, and an unwavering commitment to push the frontiers of knowledge, we can help prepare them for the future."

Patricia Gumport, MA '82, MA '86, PhD '87
Vice Provost for Graduate Education

In the seven schools across the Stanford campus, more than 8,200 students are enrolled in graduate degree programs widely recognized for disciplinary depth and excellence. And whether they are pursuing a doctorate, master's, or professional degree, these students are focused on acquiring the knowledge and skills to be experts in their fields.

But the problems facing our world are complex, and no one person or field of study can hold all the answers. Leadership in the 21st century, whether in academia, business, government, or the nonprofit sector, demands depth of knowledge as well as breadth of experience. The Stanford Challenge will ensure that Stanford can provide the best possible education to prepare our graduate students to thrive as effective leaders in a complex global society.
