Over the past 15 years, Stanford has built a wonderful tradition of sustained and significant annual giving from thousands of alumni, parents, and friends. Such philanthropy plays a critical role. First, it directly supports our financial aid programs, helping to fill the gap between students' need and financial aid endowment. Second, annual giving is a significant source of seed funding for innovative programs across the university. Much like venture capital, annual giving enables Stanford to maintain its entrepreneurial culture in both teaching and research.
